  • A Northern Suburbs Uniting Church family fun nite and dance is being organised by the Duncraig Uniting Social Justice / Mission Team. It will be held on Friday 1 May at Cousins Hall, St Stephens School (Doveridge Drive, Duncraig) from 6.00pm. The evening will include live music and cater for children as well as adults.   • Noranda Uniting Church is having an autumn fair on Saturday 2 May from 9.00am – 1.00pm at the church, 79 Camboon Road, Noranda.   • Scarborough Uniting Church offers you the opportunity to explore the gospels in a three session series with Professor William Loader. Session 1: Sunday 3 May, Jesus and the rich man, session 2: Sunday 10 May, The Lord’s Prayer and session 3: Sunday 17 May, Jesus’ last meal.   • All Saints Floreat Uniting Church has books on the history of the Floreat Uniting Church for sale for $5. Adventure in Faith gives the history of the Forum Methodist/ Uniting Church from its beginning through the union of the two congregations to the building of the present church. Presbytery & Synod of WA

  • Synod Mission Grants – once again applications are invited for Synod Mission Grants to support new projects in ministry and mission through the Strategy Mission & Planning Commission. Grant application forms and guidelines can be obtained through contacting Rev Brian Carey, Mission Planner on (08) 9260 9800 or www.wa.uca.org.au. The closing date for applications is 15 May 2009.
  • Code of Ethics Training will be held at the Uniting Church Centre, 85 Edward Street, Perth, on Thursday 30 April from 9.30am – 2.30pm. To all who have registered, we look forward to seeing you. Please bring with you your copy of the Code of Ethics. Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Unfortunately registrations for this session are closed. Training is open to ministers, lay preachers, lay worship leaders, people working with youth, chairs of church councils and anyone interested in attending.
  • Special Celebration Service. So as to be inclusive and involve as many people as possible a special Celebration Service will be held prior to the meeting on the Friday evening 1 May at Floreat Uniting Church beginning at 7.30pm. This service will acknowledge those ministers who will have reached significant milestones this year and the retirement of Rev Marion Millin. Also it will recognise the formation of the Congregation Mission Support Unit, the First Third Team and the Rural Ministry Team. Everyone is welcome to share in this joyous occasion.
  • Parking / buses for the Presbytery of WA Meeting. Parking is available across the road from the church at the Floreat Forum. There is limited parking close to the church.   • Rev Alastair Melville will be inducted into his placement as Rural Ministry Associate on Saturday 23 May at 2.30pm at Narrogin Uniting Church. Alastair will be working with congregations in the Great Southern Region.
  • Wendie Wilkie will be commissioned into her placement as Rural Ministry Associate on Saturday 30 May at 2.00pm at Kojonup Uniting Church. Wendie will be working with rural congregations in the South West and Great Southern Regions.
  • State Youth Games is a fun, interdenominational sports competition held over the long weekend 29 May – 1 June 2009 in Bunbury. This is a great event for youth and young adults aged 15 – 28. Sports include soccer, netball, volleyball, ten pin bowling, squash, triathlon, uno and chess. Registrations for the Uniting Church State Youth Games team for 2009 are now open, until Tuesday 28 April.   • Breathe National In Service 09 is a biannual event to equip, encourage and inspire workers with children, youth and families. Rev Dr Steve Taylor will be speaking.   • Coalition for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) has supplied personal care packs and phone cards to the Afghani men in Royal Perth Hospital.   • Oxfam Australia and the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand are encouraging everyone to hold a Coffee Break event in support of fair trade during Fair Trade Fortnight, 2 – 17 May 2009. Host a coffee break at home or at work to raise awareness of the importance of fair trade – paying farmers a fair price for their produce – enabling sustainable production and providing income security for producers.   • Rev Denise Savage will be inducted and Jeff Savage will be commissioned into their placements as First Third Team Specialists in the North Metro area on Wednesday 22 April at 6.00pm at Greenwood Uniting Church.
  • The next meeting of the Presbytery of WA will be held on Saturday 2 May at All Saints Floreat Uniting Church beginning with morning tea at 9.30am. On Saturday 14 March 2009 a gathering of 36 lay preachers and lay worship leaders agreed to adopt a Constitution to form an Association for the benefit of all lay preachers and lay worship leaders of the Uniting Church in WA. The major aim of the Association is to provide both encouragement and support, through education and other nurturing exercises, in the proclamation of the Gospel.   • Wembley Downs Uniting Church is having a silent retreat at ‘Galilee’, Gidgegannup from 8.30am – 4.00pm on Saturday 18 April. Elaine Ledgerwood will be leading on the theme of ‘A time for Renewal and Hope’. For more information contact Cherry on (08) 9341 8590.
  • Armadale/Kelmscott Uniting Church. On Sunday 19 April we are holding our usual Sunday Worship at 9.00am. We are planning a luncheon at 12 noon and the official final closing service at 2.00pm. This is the final service to be held in this building in Lowanna Way, Armadale. The congregation is not disbanding, but relocating to Armadale CWA Hall as a temporary measure.

  • Please note in the General Council update last week Rev Viv Larkin’s appointment was stated as 1 July 2009. She is actually beginning her new placement as Associate General Secretary (Pastoral) on 1 June 2009.
  • Synod Mission Grants – once again applications are invited for Synod Mission Grants to support new projects in ministry and mission through the Strategy Mission & Planning Commission. Grant application forms and guidelines can be obtained through contacting Rev Brian Carey, Mission Planner on (08) 9260 9800 or via the website. The closing date for applications is 15 May 2009.
  • Building Belonging workshops are an opportunity to help you connect with your neighbour and make a meaningful contribution to your community. The two day workshop will be presented by Ted Smeaton of Inspiring Communities.   • State Youth Games is a fun, interdenominational sports competition held over the long weekend 29 May – 1 June 2009 in Bunbury. This is a great event for youth and young adults aged 15 – 28. Sports include soccer, netball, volleyball, ten pin bowling, squash, triathlon, uno and chess. Registrations for the Uniting Church State Youth Games team for 2009 are now open, until Tuesday 28 April.   • Nungalinya College offers courses for Indigenous adults who want to learn about God, or about how to help their families and communities.
