  • Gosnells Uniting Church is having a Market Day this Saturday 31 October from 8.00am to 12 noon at the church, cnr Hicks and Bert Streets, Gosnells. All profits from the day will go to the support of Samoa and Sumatra following their disastrous storms. For more information contact the church on (08) 9452 8632.

  • A Song for Samoa is a special fundraising event at Nedlands Uniting Church on Monday 26 October, 7.30pm. Admission is $25, $20 concession or $10 for students. Conmtact 0438 831 850 for more info or to reserve a seat.
  • Gingin Uniting Church is holding a Harvest Thanksgiving Service at 10am on Sunday 8 November at Gingin Uniting Church, followed by an auction of donated items.
  • Como Uniting Church is holding a Fellowship Breakfast on Sunday 8 November from 8.30am. Please bring a donation to help cover costs.
  • As part of their Christmas community outreach program, Duncraig Uniting Church is organising an Blue Christmas Worship Service on 13 December, 6pm, at the Church Centre, 29 Wandoo Road, Duncraig.  The service will provide an opportunity for worshippers to memorialise and celebrate loved ones who are no longer with them.  For more info call the church office on 9246 2900.

  • Rev John Atkinson is retiring and will no longer be working as rural ministry co-ordinator after Saturday 24 October. Rev Neville Campbell will be taking on the role (part-time) as a supply position and can be contacted through the Uniting Church Centre on 1300 736 692.
  • The Christmas Postcard Campaign is running again this year with the theme, “See Christmas in a Different Light.” To order packs of 1000 postcards to share the message of Jesus with your local community, contact the Media & Communications Unit on (08) 9260 9800 or 1300 736 692.
  • Intercultural Harmony Society and the Uniting Church First Third Team would like to invite you to explore the question, “Can Christians and Muslims Coexist in the Modern World?”  A free public event, with guest speakers Mr Mehmet Ozalp, CEO of Affinity Intercultural Foundation and Toby Keva, Uniting Church ministry candidate, will be held Sunday 1 November, 2.00pm at Royal Park Hall, 180 Charles Street (Crn Vincent St), West Perth (map).
  • The Mid West Regional Gathering will be held Saturday 14 November at Geraldton Uniting Church.

From the National Church

  • The President’s Table is not just an event — it is a group of people who have a special interest in the national and world life of the Uniting Church. Members are asked to make an annual contribution of $100, which is distributed by the President through a discretionary fund for special mission projects.   • About FACE 2010 will take place from 26 June to 17 July, 2010 and will once again be open for people across Australia aged 18-30 years. The About FACE website (http://www.aboutface.org.au) is about to have an overhaul, and while it still says About FACE 09 the 2010 dates and current information for applicant; application and referees forms are all available to download from the website.

UnitingCare and Congregational Outreach Activities

  • Uniting Aid’s Annual Public Meeting will be held at Dianella Uniting Church on Sunday 1 November. All interested friends are welcome to attend the meeting at 10.15am.   • Uniting Care Crossroads WA invites you to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability with them, 10.45 – 11.45am, 28 November at Wesley Quarter, cnr Hay and William sts, Perth. Master of ceremonies will be Dixie Marshall and artists participating in the event include the Crossroads Arts Group and the Penrhos College Choir.

  • The Council of Christians and Jews WA Inc will commemorate Kristallnacht with music, drama and reflection, 5.30 to 6.30pm, Sunday 8 November 2009 at the Sylvia and Harry Hoffman Hall, Carmel School, Cresswell Road, Dianella.   • The Parliament of the World’s Religions is the world’s largest global inter-religious event, held once every five years in a different city. Some 8,000  people are already registered to attend the Melbourne event in six weeks, 3–9 December 2009. For more information visit www.parliamentofreligions.org.

  • The State Library is hosting events during Seniors Week 26–31 October. Visit the latest exhibition, enjoy a concert, take a look behind the scenes or watch a film. All activities are free and some require bookings.
  • The Bringing Them Home Committee WA is holding their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 4 November, 5.30pm at City West Lotteries House, 2 Delhi St West Perth (next to City West Train Station). New members are welcome.
  • The Charter for Compassion is a single document crafted by people from all walks of life, nationalities, beliefs and backgrounds from around the world with the intent to unify, inspire and bring compassion back into the hearts of society. Its first two signatories were Archbishop Desmond TuTu and the Dalai Lama. A new website has been launched, www.charterforcompassion.org for those interested in finding out more.
