Financial Boost for Most in Need

Hon Jenny Macklin presents UnitingCare West with giant chequeWA’s most vulnerable people recieved a boost yesterday when Federal Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Honourable Jenny Macklin, presented UnitingCare West with a cheque for $300,000 to provide emergency relief services for families and individuals facing financial hardship in Western Australia.

Applications for the About FACE 2010 Program Close in 2 Weeks!

About FACE 2010 is a Faith And Cultural Exchange for young adults between 18 and 30 years, to take place from 26 June to 17 July, 2010.  Participants will elect to spend two weeks in a placement with either an Aboriginal community in Australia, or with one of the Uniting Church’s partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The About FACE program is an exciting and strategic opportunity for young adults to participate in the reconciliation and covenanting process with Aboriginal communities in Australia, and to share in solidarity with partner churches in the region.

The Uniting Church is once again celebrating Pancake Day, with churches, schools, businesses and community groups around WA cooking and eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday (16 February) to raise money and awareness in support of community service projects helping people who are doing it tough.

Premier Drops in to Tranby

On Tuesday 2 February, the Premier of WA, Hon Colin Barnett, offically opened UnitingCare West’s new Inner City Centre on Aberdeen St. The Premier was shown around the integrated facilities, which include the Tranby drop-in centre, by Chris Hall, chief executive officer of UnitingCare West, and Wendie Wilkie, chair of the Board, taking time to speak to a number of staff members.

  • The meeting of the 12th Assembly supported a proposal for a new Preamble to the Uniting Church’s Constitution. It has now been referred to the Synods and Presbyteries for consideration. The President of the Uniting Church in Australia, Rev Alistair Macrae, has written a paper which offers a very short theological and biblical perspective on the paragraph that attracted most attention in the Assembly debate.   • The National Christian Youth Convention (NCYC) is a national youth event held every two years by the Uniting Church. workers looking aheadWorkers at the Good Samaritan Industries (GSI) Canning Vale factory can look forward to cool changes, when their roof is upgraded and air conditioning installed. The capital works project received a major boost last week when GSI received a cheque for almost $1.6 million from Lotterywest.
