Seasons of the church year

As the calendar year has its seasons, so too does the Church year. Past, present and future, expressed through memory, reflection and hope, are all given a place.

The year starts with Advent, covering the four weeks before Christmas Eve. It is the season of waiting and preparation for the coming of Jesus into the world at Christmas.

Epiphany (starting 6 January) is about Jesus coming onto the public stage of history.

Lent is a season of preparation for Holy Week and Easter.

Pentecost is the longest season, that covers the rest of the year.

In September, the Uniting Church in WA celebrates Sustainable September, which is sometimes also called the Season of Creation.

October we celebrate as Mission Month, and focus on our partner churches overseas.

The last Sunday of the year is celebrated as Christ the King day.
