Our contemporary society is increasingly appreciating the gift we receive when we listen to other perspectives. Over the last half century, we have increasingly heard the voices of previously marginalised groups – women, other cultures, disability – to name but a few.
How do we hear these voices as they help us rethink for our contemporary age what Christ means for us today? On the one side, we need to keep authentic to our tradition, as we explored in the last workshop. On the other, there is much to be gained to inform both our theology and our ministry practice when we do hear the challenge raised by marginalised groups.
In this workshop we explore:
- What is contextual theology and how does it work?
- How some different perspectives in our society can help us rethink our understanding of Christ.
- How we can integrate our contemporary learning with how we reflect on who Christ is for us today.
We will be joined by Rev Dr Katalina Williams who will bring her perspective as a Tongan theologian to this question.
