In the first four hundred years of Christianity, the church spent a lot of time reflecting on how it spoke of Christ into its context. These ideas have shaped the ways we still talk about who Christ is. For us to use them well in our time (or to reinterpret them), we first need to understand why the church said what it did. Was it really only politics and personalities that shaped the theology or was there something more important to which they were responding?
In this workshop we explore:
- Why it was important to say Christ really suffered;
- What it meant to affirm Christ is God in a world with many gods;
- How & why the ancient creeds of the church were written;
- What these ideas might mean in your life and ministry.
