SUMMARY:50th Synod Opening Worship
DESCRIPTION:This year is the 50th Annual Meeting of the Synod of Western Australia!\n\n\n\nAll are welcome to the opening worship service of our 50th Synod on Friday 11 September\, 6.30pm at All Saints Floreat Uniting Church led by the Moderator Rev David Jackson\, with guest preacher Dr Ali Robinson\, a Lecturer in New Testament at United Theological College in Sydney. Ali Robinson will also be leading the Bible studies at the Synod meeting on 12 and 13 September. \n\n\n\nOur Opening Worship will include the Celebration of Ministry service where we recognise ministry milestones\, and remember ministers who have died. \n\n\n\nAn offering will be collected during the service\, contributing to the cost of WA young people attending the UCA President’s youth gathering – Held Together – in January 2027. \n\n\n\nThere will be light refreshments and fellowship following the service. \n\n\n\nThe opening worship will also be available to watch via livestream – https://www.youtube.com/@floreatunitingchurch4997 \n\n\n\nFor 50th Synod meeting updates please go to the Synod Meetings and Minutes page. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntroducing Dr Ali Robinson\n\n\n\n\nAli Robinson is a Lecturer in New Testament at United Theological College in Sydney\, where she has taught since 2020. Ali loves being in the classroom and supporting candidates who are training for ministry. Beyond the college\, Ali preaches and teaches at various churches\, and in 2023\, had the privilege of leading the Bible studies at the NSW/ACT Synod meeting. \n\n\n\n\nAli completed her doctoral work at Macquarie University on the harsh rhetoric of Jude’s epistle\, which formed the basis for her monograph Jude on the Attack (T&T Clark\, 2018). She is currently writing a book on Jude for a general readership\, which she hopes to complete this year. Her broader research interests include Luke-Acts\, women in the New Testament\, and the social context of the early church. \n\n\n\nAli is married to Jonny\, and they have two daughters (and a dog) who keep them very busy with their many extracurricular activities.
