    Uniting Church Western Australia

    Posted 1 week ago

A fantastic contract opportunity, until the end of December this year, has arisen for a Marketing & Communications Specialist to join the Marketing and Communications Team at the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of Western Australia, to tell the story of the church and its vision for justice, equality and environmental protection. This position will be based at the Uniting Church Centre in East Perth.

The Marketing & Communications Unit assists the Uniting Church WA to tell its story, both internally and externally. Whether it is a congregation’s op-shop assisting those in need, a celebration of multicultural diversity, a heart-warming connection between generations or a protest calling for human rights or climate action, the Uniting Church WA has some beautiful and important stories to tell.

This is a contract appointment, between 0.7FTE to full-time opportunity (we can offer flexibility to suit you!). This role does require some attendance at evenings and weekend events, however, they are scheduled with lots of notice.

This Marketing and Communications Specialist role is responsible for strategically curating and creating high-quality visual and written communications to assist the Uniting Church WA, including its Social Justice Unit, to tell its story, both internally and externally.

This role will be involved in the following areas (among others):

    • Telling the Story
      • Story selection – stories are told because they are
        • Newsworthy
        • Educational
        • Challenging
        • Empowering
      • Content creation – stories should be well written or created using clear, simple language and following the Uniting Church WA Style Guide. Stories may be either for internal or external use; or perhaps both. Produce content, both written and visual, for the appropriate audience on the appropriate channels, including our quarterly publication, Revive.
      • Story sharing – support Uniting Church congregations, the Social Justice Unit and other Uniting Church entities to share their stories.
    • Research – undertake research to assist in content creation to tell stories and respond to issues of importance to the Uniting Church WA and its Social Justice Unit.
    • Information sharing-
      • Research, write and produce written and visual content to be shared on the Uniting Church WA website and social media platforms.
      • Compile the weekly Uniting Church WA News & Notes email using Campaign Monitor.
      • Research, write and edit the quarterly Uniting Church WA Revive magazine
      • Strategically curate, develop, maintain and moderate the Uniting Church WA and Social Justice Unit social media content and marketing campaigns for our social media platforms.
      • Maintain a publishing calendar to co-ordinate publishing schedules.
      • Work with the Digital Technology Officer to ensure the Uniting Church WA website is kept up to date by updating and posting relevant content as required.
      • Provide quarterly reports on social media usage and effectiveness.
    • Support the Marketing and Communications and Social Justice teams in taking responsibility for specific projects requiring collaboration with other Uniting Church groups.
    • Attend Uniting Church events and meetings as a representative of the Marketing and Communications and Social Justice Units as required.

As part of a small team, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will need to be flexible to support other members of the team during busy periods.

The right candidate for this role will have outstanding research, writing and proofreading skills (please bring examples of work to interview).

High level computer skills including Microsoft Office, Campaign Monitor, Canva, image-editing, video-editing and other online tools is essential.

The right candidate will also possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, be organised, able to use initiative to solve problems, and enjoy working autonomously whilst being a team player.

This position will provide the right candidate with a personally fulfilling role, working for an organisation that makes a difference to the lives of others and values its employees.

    To Apply:

To apply, please email a cover letter outlining why you believe you are the best candidate for this specific role, together with your resume to people&culture@wa.uca.org.au

If you have any questions regarding the role, please contact Maggie Johns, Marketing and Communications Manager at maggie.johns@wa.uca.org.au or Andrew Liepins, People and Culture Manager at andrew.liepins@wa.uca.org.au

While the closing date for applications is Tuesday 31 May, we will be reviewing applications as they are received and will be making a decision when we believe we have the right candidate.

Candidates will need to demonstrate a capacity and willingness to work within the Christian ethos and polity of the Uniting Church. Candidates must have the right to live and work within Australia.
