The Uniting Church is committed to working toward a just and peaceful world. This commitment arises from the Christian belief that liberation from oppression and injustice is central to the incarnation of God through Jesus Christ.
To help us progress the justice issues of concern to us and to resource and educate congregations, the WA Synod has appointed a Social Justice Commission.
The Social Justice Commission
The Social Justice Commission (SJC) is appointed by the Synod to work for reconciliation, justice and peace and involves the Church in social and national affairs.
The SJC Board does this in practical ways by identifying issues, undertaking research, providing position papers, developing resources, organising seminars and advocacy work.
Our Objectives
The Social Justice Commission is resourced by staff in the Justice and Mission Unit to:
- Enable the Uniting Church Western Australia maintain a vision of wholeness of life for all people that includes a commitment to human rights and integrity in public life;
- Hold before the Church the importance of standing alongside those at the fringe of society, the poor, the marginalised and the oppressed, in a commitment to solidarity and advocacy as a direct implication of faith in the Gospel; and
- Assist the Church to address issues of social concern and to take action where appropriate.

Our Events
Each year, our team hosts and assists a number of events such as Sorry Day, Anti-Poverty Week and the Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees. These events are designed to promote awareness, provide engagement opportunity and seek change for the people who need it.
