Uniting Aid is a caring agency of the Uniting Church, serving those receiving Centrelink payments in the City of Stirling. Uniting Aid started its life as a caring service offering food donated by the congregation of the Dianella Uniting Church, operating from the church vestry. That was 40 years ago this year, and we are still going strong. We now operate out of Church premises in Nollamara, and help families, single people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, those with disabilities and the culturally and linguistically diverse, as well as the homeless and elderly. We offer food every three months and help with utilities bills once every twelve months. In addition we have the cheapest op shop in Perth which sells good quality second-hand clothing, household goods, children’s needs, books and toys. We prepare Christmas gifts for the children of our clients and also have free raffles on milestone dates; eg Easter, Mothers and Fathers Days and Christmas. If our clients have problems which are not in our range of services we refer them to many different agencies for help. We rely on donations of food, goods for our shop and financial assistance from our Church partners and the community to assist our clients and to keep our doors open. Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.
In this our 40th year we give thanks God’s faithfulness in providing for us through people so that we can help those in need, in accordance with our Christian faith and the example of Jesus. There will be a Thanksgiving Service at Nedlands Uniting Church at 9.30am on Sunday, the 26th September, at which the Rev Steve Francis will be the guest speaker, and we will have other occasions during the year to celebrate 40 years of service through our wonderful volunteers. Anyone interested in joining us in this work would be most welcome.
