The Formation and Learning Culture Co-ordinator will co-ordinate the formation programs and foster a learning culture within the Uniting Church in Western Australia. Expressions of interest for this role are invited from Ministers of the Word or Deacons, Pastors or a lay person who is a member of the UCA, or applicants who hold comparable educational and theological training.

Key Responsibilities

The Formation and Learning Culture Coordinator will:

  • Plan and co-ordinate the education and formation of candidates for ordained ministries.
  • Develop and co-ordinate a program for ministry agents in Phase 3.
  • Oversee the learning programs for admission of ministers.
  • Develop learning programs for accredited lay preachers.
  • Plan and co-ordinate the education and formation for the Ministry of Pastor.
  • Work with Uniting Church committees, congregations and wider church gatherings to promote a learning culture within the Church in WA.
  • Work closely with the Education and Resources Co-ordinator to communicate various groups’ education, training, and formation needs.

Key Relationships

  • Relates to: Commission for Education for Discipleship and Leadership (CEDAL), the Ministerial Education Board in WA, Education and Resources Co-ordinator and Administration Assistant, other Presbytery and Synod staff, other Presbytery and Synod committees, members of the wider Uniting Church, other education boards and theological colleges in the UCA.
  • Reports to: This position is accountable to and reports to the Chairperson of CEDAL or another person determined by the Presbytery Standing Committee (PSC).

Essential Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in theology.
  • Member of the UCA, and commitment to the Basis of Union, to the Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice, to the covenantal relationship with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC), and to the consultative, inter-conciliar, multicultural and ecumenical ethos of the UCA.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ministry and mission in the UCA, and to education, formation and training for leadership.
  • Experience in an adult education context, and planning and delivering educational programs.
  • Experience in ministry contexts, including preaching, teaching, leading worship services, facilitating small groups, pastoral care, mission planning, community engagement etc.
  • Familiarity with contemporary church and ministry contexts within the UCA, and trends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member, and to effectively delegate responsibilities.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, and to facilitate and contribute to strategic discussions.
  • Knowledge of the structure and polity of the UCA.
