Campfire 2025 – sharing faith, community and fireside chats.

For 19 years, Campfire has been bringing people together from across the Uniting Church WA (and beyond!) — and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Campfire began in 2006 as an idea from Rev Dr Ian Robinson, who wanted to encourage Uniting Church people to take seriously the call to mission and church growth. It was launched under the umbrella of PNEUMA (Pastoral Network of Evangelicals Uniting in Mission Action), with Lake Yealering chosen as the gathering place—both for its natural beauty and to help engage members from country congregations.

Over the years, organisers have been continually amazed by the number of people who make the annual journey — especially the many families with children who just keep coming back.

Campfire is held each year over the September long weekend and typically includes three all-in worship gatherings (with a separate kids’ program), a pilgrimage of the keen to the local pub for the AFL Grand Final, and plenty of time for adults to sit around the fire and chat while the kids ride bikes and explore the local area.

A catered shared lunch on Sunday brings everyone together, but otherwise it’s BYO food and accommodation—whether that’s a tent, caravan, or swag. For those who prefer a little more comfort, there are also a few rooms available at the local pub.

This year, 105 campers gathered in Yealering to encourage one another in faith, marvel at God’s good creation, and simply slow down. There were kids’ activities, a screening of the AFL Grand Final at the pub, worship gatherings, inspiring talks, and plenty of time for fireside conversations.

A huge thank you to Dave Gardner, who has magnificently led Campfire for the past eight years. Dave is taking a well-earned rest, but the good news is — Campfire will be back next year! So, dust off your camping gear, keep an eye out for the details, and plan to join us in 2026.
