Moderator’s 2026 Easter Message
Uniting Church WA Moderator Rev David Jackson shares an Easter message with the community.
In his Easter message Rev David Jackson reflects on the Uniting Church WA’s Summer Spirit event titled “Walking Together, Covenanting Together” marking 30+ years of Covenant with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress. He acknowledges painful histories of dispossession and the church’s past failures, while highlighting our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. Rev Jackson emphasises that combating racism has been part of the church’s identity since its formation in 1977, when it pledged to correct injustices and work to eradicate racism in society.
The Moderator then connects these themes to the recent attempted bombing at an Invasion Day rally in Perth. Although the device failed to detonate, the event sent shock waves through the community and exposed deep wounds among First Nations peoples. Leaders—including WA’s Premier and Aboriginal elders—responded with messages of pain, resilience and a call for continued determination in the pursuit of justice.
The Moderator draws parallels with Easter as moments that confront injustice and call for transformation. He ends with the words of Rev Charles Harris from 1985—an enduring call to peace, justice and the dismantling of racism.
