Synod Property Board – Expression of Interest for Independent Board Members
The Uniting Church Synod of WA is seeking expressions of interest for independent Board members to contribute to the Synod Property Board.

About the Role
The Synod Property Board provides strategic oversight and governance for property, helping to steward church property for mission, sustainability and long-term benefit while balancing missional outcomes with income-producing opportunities that further the mission of the Church.
Key accountabilities include:
- Providing advice and recommendations on property policy.
- Overseeing implementation of the Synod’s agreed property policies and processes.
- Property applications, transactions, redevelopment proposals and responsible body matters.
- Identifying and monitoring long-term opportunities for property acquisition, disposal, development, income streams and partnerships.
- Managing property for which the Synod is the responsible body and supporting compliance with Church and public regulatory requirements.
Key Skills and Attributes
The Board is especially seeking legal expertise, architecture, or property skills.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Legal and Governance Expertise: property law, contracts, leases, planning approvals, risk, joint ventures and governance frameworks.
- Property Development and Project Delivery: development feasibility, planning, construction, procurement, project governance and lifecycle asset management.
- Quantity Surveying and Cost Management: reviewing estimates, budgets, value-for-money, capital works risks and project cost controls.
- Property Partnerships and Commercial Acumen: commercial or community partnerships, leasing, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and income generation.
- Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration: a curious and critical thinker who can articulate views clearly, listen actively, engage in constructive discussion and work collaboratively within the Uniting Church’s consensus model for decision-making.
We are also open to including and mentoring professionals with limited governance experience.
While being a member of a church is not required, all board members must respect the ethos and polity of the Uniting Church.
The Board meets six times per year with additional meetings as necessary (in person in Perth, with the option for occasional remote attendance).
