Board of Finance & Investment – Expression of Interest for Independent Board Members
The Uniting Church Synod of WA is seeking expressions of interest for independent Board members on the Board of Finance and Investment.

About the Role
The Board of Finance and Investment is responsible for overseeing the finances of the Uniting Church WA, a diverse portfolio of funds, and Uniting Church Insurance Services, which offers insurance across all entities in the Uniting Church WA. As a board member, you will be crucial in providing strategic oversight and governance.
Key accountabilities include:
- Audit, Risk, Insurance, and Investments.
- Overseeing the Investment Policy and Ethical Framework.
- Reviewing and monitoring external Investment Advisors and Managers, for performance, risk, and ethical considerations.
- Providing financial governance advice to the wider Uniting Church WA.
Key Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills and experience one or more of the following areas:
- Investment Governance: Proven ability to review and oversee investments, ensuring compliance with policy and ethical frameworks.
- Financial Review and Audit: Review accounts and audits with a strategic and risk lens.
- Risk and Insurance: Experience in risk governance and insurance programs
- Financial Literacy: Strong understanding of investments and financial statement analysis.
- Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration: a curious and critical thinker who can articulate views clearly, listen actively, engage in constructive discussion and work collaboratively within the Uniting Church’s consensus model for decision-making.
We are also open to including and mentoring professionals with limited governance experience.
While being a member of a church is not required, all board members must respect the ethos and polity of the Uniting Church.
The Board meets six times per year with additional meetings as necessary (in person in Perth, with the option for occasional remote attendance).
