Uniting Church Western Australia have been long-term advocates for restorative and rehabilitative justice practices across the WA justice system and are active members of Social Reinvestment WA.
We acknowledge that the persistent and growing over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the justice system, particularly among young people and particularly in WA, necessitates an urgent overhaul of the WA Government’s policies relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We want a change in approach towards a more holistic, prevention-based approach that prioritises cultural, social, and emotional wellbeing among people at risk of incarceration.
We are members of Social Reinvestment WA, a coalition body led by Aboriginal leaders, the non-profit sector, experts, and lived experience people; Working collectively for an effective and connected approach to justice in Western Australia.
The Uniting Church Western Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we live and work. The Uniting Church Centre sits on the lands of the Wadjuk Nyungar people and we pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Nyungar people as the sovereign First Peoples of this place.
