Presbytery Minister: Mission

Expressions of interest are invited from members of the Uniting Church, either ordained or lay, for a full time position within the Presbytery of Western Australia (WA).

About the Role

The Presbytery Minister (Mission) will work with the Thrive Mission Committee and other staff of Presbytery to support and resource congregations and faith communities across WA to engage in worship, witness and service as the people of God in their communities.

Key Responsibilities

The Presbytery Minister (Mission) will:

  • Guide and resource congregations to engage in deliberate, wise and prayerful mission planning.
  • Promote Fresh Expressions of church as a missional outreach
  • Take a lead in planning and delivering Mission Shaped Mission Training or other courses which encourage, support and resource congregational mission development
  • Create networks or support existing networks to assist congregation and ministers to resource and encourage each other in understanding and practice of missional ministry.
  • Provide an online and social network presence that is regularly updated with relevant informative material about congregational mission.
  • Assist Thrive Mission Committee in their strategic missional planning.

Key Relationships

Relates to: Thrive Mission Committee, other committees and networks of the Presbytery and ministers and lay leaders in congregations and faith communities. The Presbytery Minister (Mission) will work as part of the Presbytery staff team and will build positive relationships with other Presbytery staff.
Reports to: This position is accountable to and reports to the Presbytery under the management of the Presbytery Officer. They will report to Thrive Mission Committee and attend their meetings.

Personal Requirements

  • Member of the Uniting Church (lay or ordained), understanding of the Basis of Union and commitment to the Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice and the Covenantal relationship with Congress
  • Strong commitment to enhance God’s mission in the world and enabling the Church to develop appropriate responses to the changing context.
  • A passion and demonstrated ability to enable congregations to creatively discover their call and mission.
  • Evidence of MSM training, or equivalent and willingness to undertake MSM training, and ability to be part of the team leading MSM and other adult education and training courses.
  • Strong commitment to work collaboratively and promote team work to achieve shared goals.
  • Effective pastoral and communication skills and ability to work with people from diverse theological backgrounds.
  • Sound Biblical and theological knowledge within the ethos of the Uniting Church.
  • A sound knowledge of the issues facing the Church in the 21st century.
  • Working with Children Card, national Police Clearance and WA driving licence.
