Any modification to building and property needs to meet the requirements of legislation including Work, Health and Safety. For your property idea/ proposal to be approved you will need to submit the required forms and documentation to us.
Who needs to approve property works?
Small projects (under $20,000 ex GST)
If your congregation is funding the work and it doesn’t involve specialist works (like heritage repairs), your Church Council can approve it. You don’t need Presbytery or Synod approval – but help is available if you need it. A person authorised by the Church Council can sign these property works contracts.
Medium projects ($20,000–$100,000 ex GST)
Please complete Form 2 and email it to [email protected]. The Executive Officer Property will review and arrange approval.
Large projects (over $100,000 ex GST or specialist works)
Extra checks are needed. Complete Form 2 and email it to [email protected]. We’ll guide you through the review and approval process.
Lease/Sale/Purchase/Contracts
If a congregation intends to lease property to someone else (eg manse), or if the congregation wishes to lease premises, seek approval using Form 1 below. The Property Trust signs all lease agreements, not the congregation.
If a congregation intends to sell or purchase property, use form 3 or 4 below. All property in the Uniting Church is under the Property Trust, so all sale/purchase agreements need to be signed by the Property Trust, not the congregation.
Any contracts over $20,000 ex GST (eg for an event, property works, car purchase, equipment, professional services) need to be reviewed and signed by the Property Trust (or Synod delegate). (Form A or B below)
For contracts relating to employing an individual (ie not a company) (eg admin support, cleaner, gardener, mission assistant), please contact people&[email protected]. We can help with the appropriate employment contract, and [email protected] can ensure they are paid correctly with compliance to awards, superannuation, and tax.
